Introduction
Florida has officially become the first U.S. state to prohibit geoengineering practices with the enactment of Senate Bill 56. This groundbreaking law bans the release of chemicals or agents into the atmosphere with the intent to influence weather, temperature, or sunlight levels.
What the Law Prohibits
Senate Bill 56 states that:
“The injection, release, or dispersion of chemical, biological agents, or any substance into Florida’s atmosphere with the intent to affect temperature, weather patterns, or sunlight intensity is strictly prohibited.”
