Authorities have arrested 26-year-old Luigi Mangione in connection with the December 4th fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Manhattan. Mangione, a University of Pennsylvania graduate, was apprehended in Altoona, Pennsylvania, and is charged with second-degree murder, weapons possession, and forgery.

Thompson, 50, was shot outside the New York Hilton Midtown hotel in what police described as a "premeditated, targeted attack." The assailant, wearing a green jacket and black mask, approached Thompson from behind and fired multiple shots before fleeing into Central Park.

Investigators discovered shell casings at the scene inscribed with the words "DENY," "DELAY," and "DEPOSE," possibly referencing criticisms of insurance industry practices.

Mangione was found with a manifesto condemning the healthcare industry, indicating a potential motive linked to grievances against corporate healthcare practices.

The incident has sparked discussions about the U.S. healthcare system, with some public figures controversially expressing approval of the attack, highlighting deep-seated frustrations with health insurance companies.

UnitedHealth Group expressed deep sorrow over Thompson's death, remembering him as a respected leader and colleague.

Mangione remains in custody without bail, and the investigation is ongoing.
