✝️ Lesson 2 – Jeshua the Christ: Son of the Living God

✝️ Lesson 2 – Jeshua the Christ: Son of the Living God

📍 Lesson Goals

By the end of this lesson, students will:

  • Understand that Jesus (Jeshua) is not only a teacher or prophet, but God Himself made flesh.

  • Learn about His life, teachings, miracles, death, and resurrection.

  • Reflect on why His mission matters personally and globally.

  • Begin forming a deeper relationship with Him as Savior and Lord.

🕯️ 1. Opening Prayer

“Holy Spirit, open our hearts to the truth of who Jesus truly is. Help us see Him not as a distant figure from history, but as the living Son of God who loves us and calls us by name. Teach us to follow Him with courage, trust, and love. Amen.”

✨ 2. Who Is Jesus?

Over 2,000 years ago, a carpenter’s son from a small town in Israel changed the course of human history. Billions have followed Him. Empires have risen and fallen in His name. He is called:

  • Christ – “The Anointed One,” the promised Messiah.

  • Emmanuel – “God with us.”

  • Son of God – Not just like God, but God Himself in human form.

  • The Word (Logos) – The eternal wisdom of God made flesh.

When Jesus asked His disciples, “Who do you say that I am?” Peter answered:

“You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.” – Matthew 16:16

This question is still the most important one you will ever answer. Your whole life’s meaning depends on it.

👣 3. The Incarnation: God Enters Human History

The central mystery of Christianity is the Incarnation — that the eternal Son of God, the Second Person of the Trinity, became man without ceasing to be God.

  • He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.

  • He shared our human nature — hunger, fatigue, emotions, joy, and suffering — yet without sin.

  • He entered time and space to restore what sin had broken.

📖 John 1:14

“The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.”

The Catechism explains it like this:

“The Word became flesh so that we might know God’s love… and become partakers of the divine nature.” (CCC 456–460)

💭 Reflection: God didn’t stay distant in heaven. He stepped into our broken world to walk beside us.

📖 4. The Life and Mission of Jeshua

Jesus’ earthly life was more than a series of miracles — it was the revelation of God’s heart.

✨ His Teachings

He spoke of the Kingdom of God, not as a political empire but as a reality within the soul.
He taught radical love:

  • Love your enemies (Matthew 5:44)

  • Forgive seventy times seven times (Matthew 18:22)

  • Treat others as you would want to be treated (Luke 6:31)

🌿 His Miracles

Each miracle was a sign of who He is:

  • Healed the sick → He is the Divine Healer.

  • Calmed the storm → He commands nature.

  • Raised the dead → He is the Lord of life.

❤️ His Compassion

He welcomed outcasts, defended the oppressed, and ate with sinners. He showed that God’s love has no boundaries.

✝️ 5. The Cross: Love That Redeems

Despite His love, humanity rejected Him. He was betrayed, arrested, mocked, and crucified. But what looked like defeat was actually the greatest victory in history.

On the Cross:

  • He took upon Himself the weight of all sin — past, present, and future.

  • He offered His life as a sacrifice of love, reconciling humanity with God.

  • He showed that love is stronger than hatred, mercy deeper than judgment.

📖 Romans 5:8

“God proves His love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

💡 This is the heart of the Gospel: You are so loved that God would rather die than live without you.

🌅 6. The Resurrection: Victory Over Death

Three days after His death, Jesus rose from the dead.
This is not just a symbol — it is a historical reality that transformed the world.

The Resurrection means:

  • Sin no longer has the final word.

  • Death has been defeated.

  • Eternal life is now possible.

📖 John 11:25

“I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Me will live, even though he dies.”

This is why Christianity is not merely a philosophy — it is a relationship with a living Person.

🔥 7. Jesus Today: A Living Presence

Jesus did not ascend into heaven and abandon us. He remains with us through:

  • The Church – His Body on Earth, teaching and guiding us.

  • The Sacraments – His grace made visible.

  • The Eucharist – His real presence, Body and Blood.

  • Prayer – The way we speak with Him daily.

💭 He is not someone you “study” — He is Someone you meet.
And when you meet Him, everything changes.

🫀 8. Reflection & Discussion

Reflect & Discuss:

  1. How does it change your view of God to know He became human for you?

  2. Which teaching or miracle of Jesus touches you the most — and why?

  3. What does the Resurrection mean for your own life and future?

Activity:
Write a short, personal prayer beginning with:
“Jesus, I believe You are the Son of the Living God. Today I invite You…”

🙏 9. Closing Prayer

“Lord Jesus, You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God. Thank You for entering our world, for teaching us, healing us, dying for us, and rising to give us life. Help us to know You not just as a name in a book, but as our Savior, Friend, and King. Come into our hearts and transform our lives. Amen.”

Summary of Key Takeaways

  • Jesus is not just a prophet or teacher — He is God made flesh.

  • His mission was to reveal the Father’s love and save humanity from sin.

  • Through His death and resurrection, He conquered death and opened the way to eternal life.

  • He is still present today in the Church, the sacraments, and every heart that welcomes Him.
