Si el lector de esta nota tiene una cierta edad, se acordará de aquel tiempo en que llamar al extranjero era casi un lujo para ricos.

Al resto siempre nos quedaba la (¿deshonrosa?) opción de llamar a cobro revertido e implorar que la persona al otro lado del aparato aceptase el costo.
Por suerte, la tecnología nos ha facilitado mucho la vida: hoy existen muy buenas y baratas opciones para llamar a tus sufridos familiares o a ese amigo que conociste en el último viaje.

BBC Mundo te explica algunas de las mejores opciones para llamar al extranjero desde tu celular inteligente.

1. Skype

Fue el primer servicio en permitir realizar llamadas internacionales gratis con voz y audio y se mantiene como número uno del mercado.

Aunque nació para ser usado en computadoras, Skype cuenta con una aplicación para celulares.
Descargar la aplicación es gratis, así como realizar videollamadas si hablas con otra persona que también se ha descargado la aplicación y está conectada en ese momento.
Además, Skype te da la opción de cargar tu cuenta con dinero mediante tu tarjeta de crédito y llamar, a un precio razonable, a un celular que no esté conectado.
La calidad del audio y el video suele ser buena, aunque depende de la calidad de la conexión que utilicen los usuarios.

Una desventaja de Skype es que no permite hacer videollamadas grupales de forma gratuita, como sí permiten otros sistemas.

2. Whatsapp

El servicio de llamadas de Whatsapp está disponible desde este año. La compañía, propiedad de Facebook, te permite hacer llamadas gratis a usuarios que estén en otro país.
El servicio en sí no tiene costo, aunque tienes que tener en cuenta que sí consume tu plan de datos si no estás utilizando una red wifi.
La aplicación te permite hacer llamadas de voz, pero no de video. Puedes llamar a cualquier usuario de Android o iOS que tenga la aplicación instalada.
Para utilizarlo, solo tienes que abrir la conversación con la persona a la que quieres llamar y pulsar en el icono del teléfono.
Si alguien te llama, te aparecerá en la pantalla del teléfono.

3. ooVoo

Esta aplicación te permite realizar videollamadas con hasta 12 personas con una buena calidad de video.
Hasta cuatro de los participantes pueden ser vistos al mismo tiempo en la pantalla del teléfono o de la tableta.

Además, también puedes enviar archivos, grabar video y subir videos de Youtube.
Una de las ventajas es que tus amigos no necesitan estar en ooVoo para poder atender tu llamada, sino que pueden responder a través de su app para Facebook.
Skype también cuenta con una aplicación de este tipo, pero solo se puede utilizar entre usuarios de Facebook.
ooVoo también vende crédito para pagar por minuto llamadas a números fijos o celulares.

4. Viber

Al igual que Whatsapp, Viber tampoco ofrece el servicio de videollamadas.
Su ventaja es la simplicidad: Viber reconoce tu lista de contactos e identifica a los que tienen también instalada la aplicación.

Si no interesa el video, es una forma fácil de llamar de forma gratuita. Hay que asegurarse, eso sí, de que el número al que se quiere llamar está en la forma correcta, con el código de país correspondiente, o la aplicación no lo reconocerá.

5. Google Hangouts

Hangouts es una aplicación de Google con la que puedes hacer llamadas de voz y video gratis. Para utilizarla, tienes que tener una cuenta en Google+.
Google Hangouts es compatible con iOS y Android y es el equivalente al Whatsapp.
Google ha reunido en Hangouts las diversas herramientas que ya existían, como el Google Talk (el chat del correo Gmail).
La aplicación permite realizar videollamadas grupales con hasta 10 participantes.
Es la mejor opción para los usuarios de los servicios de Google.

6. FaceTime

Facetime es una buena opción para realizar llamadas gratuitas, pero tiene el inconveniente de que solo funciona con usuarios de iPhone 4 o posteriores.

Para utilizarlo, necesitas el número de teléfono o la dirección de correo de la persona a la que quieras llamar.
Para hacer una llamada de audio, solo tienes que pusar el icono del teléfono en la lista de contactos.
Si quieres hacer una llamada de video, pulsa el icono FaceTime para invitar a la otra persona a una llamada Face Time de video.

7. Line

Line tiene varios centenares de usuarios en todo el mundo. Creada en Japón, te permite hacer llamadas de audio y video gratis y tiene un amplio servicio de mensajería instantánea.

Discover it. On the off chance that you never found it you are living on re-appropriated time.

In an interview with Chicago’s WGN9 Morning News, Brunell Donald-Kyei held nothing back in her response on why she is working hard to help elect Donald Trump.

According to her Facebook page, Brunell Donald-Kyei is an attorney, the Vice-Chair of Diversity Outreach, National Diversity Coalition for Trump, and a former Democratic Lt. Governor candidate for Illinois.
They asked how and why she got involved with the Trump campaign, and she told them much more than they ever expected to hear.   They tried to throw up the racist card, but she threw it right back, and she gave them some excellent reasons why she believes Trump must be the next president.
She even waded into the subject of ISIS, noting that ISIS doesn’t target people as black, white, or Hispanic – they simply say, ‘I’m going to blow up Americans.’  “ISIS just sees us as Americans, so the sooner we see each other that way, the better,” she said.
She talked about shootings in Chicago, and said Americans need JOBS.   She said she voted for Democrats over 20 years of her life, said she voted for Obama when he promised “Hope and Change and Yes We Can” but “no we didn’t.”    She said we’ve got to stop thinking about black and white and purple and start thinking as Americans!
